How to get Beautiful Glowing Skin

Do you long for a naturally gorgeous complexion? Do you wish that you had absolutely beautiful, glowing skin? Follow along after the jump to learn how to nurture and protect your skin so that it looks amazing as soon as you wake up in the morning

Method 1 : Building a Routine

(i)Wash your face at night : Over the course of the day, makeup, dirt, and oil build up on your face. Make cleansing your skin part of your bedtime routine
  • Use makeup remover. Not only does this prevent it from clogging up your pores and causing breakouts while you sleep, it also stops you from smearing bacteria on your pillow — where it can get into your skin night after night
  • Use a gentle soap. Remember that you want to clean your skin, not completely strip it of all oils — if it feels tight and dry after washing, you're using something too strong
  • Avoid the eye area; the skin around the eye can be too delicate for most cleansers
  • Rinse off by splashing water on your face. Using a washcloth or rag to roughly wipe your skin clean can irritate it more. Instead, bend your face over the sink, cup your hands together, and bring up small amounts of water to splash over your face. About 10 splashes should do it
  • Pat dry. Don't roughly rub your skin dry with a towel. Instead, dry it with small, gentle pats or let it air dry
(ii)Apply toner : A toner removes excess oil and dirt from your skin that the soap missed, in addition to closing your pores. Not everyone needs to use a toner, but some people find it helpful.
  • Put a few drops onto a cotton ball or pad. Swipe it lightly over your skin.
  • Only use astringent if your skin is exceptionally oily. Astringent is a stronger type of toner that can be up to 60% alcohol. If your skin tends to be dry, using astringent could actually cause acne by driving your oil glands to overcompensate.
  • Witch hazel is a natural alternative to buying synthetic toner/astringent.
  • Consider applying toner to only the areas of your skin that tend to break out. For instance, you might only use it on your nose or forehead
(iii)Smooth on some moisturizer : Using lotion in the morning acts as a primer for your makeup, helping it "stick" to your face throughout the day. Moisturizing at night helps your skin repair itself and stave off wrinkles. Bottom line, it's one of the best things you can do for glowing skin over the long term.
  • Consider using a lighter moisturizer during the day. If you're prone to breakouts, save the heavy cream moisturizer for nighttime and use a light or gel moisturizer during the day.
  • Don't forget your neck and décolletage. These areas can get super dry and irritated if you never moisturize them
(iv)Exfoliate once a week : If your skin tends to be dry and flaky, a weekly exfoliation can clear out dead skin cells. Find an exfoliant that has a super fine grain, and don't rub it roughly into your skin — use light pressure and gentle motions.
  • A simple scrub of sugar mixed with honey makes a great exfoliator. Rinse it off with warm water.
  • You could also exfoliate with a dry brush made for the face. Brush your face using small, circular motions
(v)Protect your skin from the sun :Avoid leathery, tough skin by applying a light sunscreen every time you plan to be outside. The lack of sun damage will keep your skin dewy and supple for years to come. Remember, it only takes 15 minutes to get a sunburn, so be prepared.
  • Stick to SPF 30 — anything higher doesn't have much more benefit.
  • Search the makeup aisle for spray-on sunscreens that are light and dry.
  • Use a foundation or tinted moisturizer with sunscreen, so your face is already covered.

Method 2 : Dealing With Acne

(i)Prevent acne before it starts : Here are some small daily-life hacks you can use to prevent pimples before they happen:
  • Change out your pillowcase every four or five days. A fresh, bacteria-free pillowcase can stop your skin from erupting overnight.
  • Keep your hands off your face. If you tend to rest your chin in your palm, or you're constantly fussing with your face, stop. The oils on your hands can cause breakouts, even in small amounts.
  • Tie your hair back while you sleep. If you have long hair, keep it off your face while you rest. Braid it back, and use pins or a headband to keep bangs off your forehead.
  • Get your beauty rest. Stress can lead to breakouts, so make sure you're well-rested and calm.
  • Change your birth control (females). Some oral contraceptives containing estrogen can calm down regular breakouts. Ask your doctor if this is the right choice for you
(ii)Do not pick or pop pimples :
  • Doing so can make the infection worse and lead to permanent scarring
(iii)See a dermatologist : If you can't get the problem under control by yourself, visit a doctor. He or she can prescribe serious treatments such as Accutane, Retin-A or red-blue light treatments

(iv)Consider a salicylic acid face wash : Some anti-acne face cleansers contain salicylic acid, which kills the bacteria that can cause acne.
  • To prevent drying out your face, start using a salicylic acid wash only in the mornings and see if that's sufficient. If you still need more help, use it at night as well.
(v)Use spot treatments : There are several products that you can dab onto active zits to reduce redness and kill bacteria. Two of the most popular are salicylic acid gel and benzoyl peroxide cream.
  • For extra help, try using both formulations.
  • Be aware that benzoyl peroxide can bleach hair and clothing

Method 3 : Eating Healthy and Exercising

(i)Drink up: Aim to get 6 to 8 glasses of water a day. The water will clear your skin and make it glow because it makes it easier for your body to flush out toxins quickly.
  • Carry a water bottle with you all day to make sure you always have water on hand.
  • Drink herbal tea or other non-caffeinated beverages to hydrate when you're tired of water.
(ii)Eat a healthy diet : Healthy proteins and nutritious fruits and vegetables go a long way toward making skin glow. Add these elements to your diet to see quick results:
  • Omega 3 fatty acids. These are found in fish and walnuts, and are especially beneficial to your skin.
  • Vitamin C. This will help existing pimples heal faster, so eating a few servings of citrus fruits and spinach will help.
  • Fiber-rich foods. Fresh vegetables, nuts, and unprocessed fruit helps keep a fine balance and to be regular, not sluggish, in the gastrointestinal area. You may look and feel tired and sickly (headache and abdominal complaints), if you do not have regularity of elimination/movements once or more every day.
(iii)Eat less sugar and salt : Try to consume less than 45g of sugar on a daily basis, and cut down on salty foods. Eating too much salt can make your face look bloated

(iv)Take vitamins : If you're worried you aren't getting enough of necessary vitamins and minerals, try taking a multivitamin. Vitamins intended for pregnant women are especially beneficial to the skin

(v)Work out : Cardio makes your skin glow because it stimulates blood flow. It's also healthy for your body and will make you stronger. You'll see results immediately and long term, too

how to get shiny hair

If your hair is dull, dry and brittle, there are measures you can take to immediately restore its shine. Learn how to change your hair care regimen, use products that add shine, and make dietary choices that restore your hair's luster in no time.

Method 1 : Adopting a Gentle Hair Care Regimen

  (i)Wash your hair less often:
  • When you wash your hair every day it starts to get frizzy, dry and brittle. That's because you're washing away the sebum, the natural oil your scalp produces to keep your hair healthy. Start washing your hair 3 or 4 times a week to give it a chance to grow strong, healthy and shiny
  •  Your hair may look oily for the first week or so after you stop washing it every day. Your scalp is used to working in overdrive to produce enough oil for your hair, and it might take a little while for your body to get used to the new routine and restore its natural balance.
  • On the days in between washings, use dry shampoo to bring life back to your roots. Sprinkle a little baby powder mixed with cornstarch over your scalp, let it sit for 10 minutes, then brush it away
(ii)Wash your hair with cold water:
  • This simple trick provides immediate results. Instead of using hot or even warm water on your hair, use cold hair to wet it and rinse out shampoo and conditioner. The cool temperature flattens your hair shaft, taming frizz and resulting in smooth, shiny hair.
  • If you don't want to take a cold shower, start with warmer water and shock your hair with cold water at the end of the shower.
  • If using cold water seems unbearable, start with lukewarm water and see if you can work your way to cold water. You'll get used to the colder temperature quickly.
  (iii)Dry your hair gently:
  •  When you roughly towel dry your hair and twist it up after showering, you're damaging and fraying your hair shaft. This makes hair look dull and frizzy. Gently squeeze out your hair and blot it dry with a soft towel for a glossier result
  (iv)Work through tangles with a wide-toothed comb:
  • Brushing your hair, especially when it's wet, can break the shaft and lead to frizz. Use a wide-toothed comb to gently work through the tangles
(v)Take it easy with heat styling tools:
  • In your quest for shiny hair, you have probably employed hair dryers, straightening irons and curling irons to achieve a sleek, shiny look. Using heat can help temporarily, but it ends up drying your hair out and causing it to look damaged and brittle after awhile. Reserve heat styling tools for special occasions
  (vi)Get regular trims:
  • Removing frayed split ends goes a long way toward making your hair look shinier. Ask your stylist not to use chemicals and heat styling tools on your hair
Method 2 : Using Hair Care Products that Make Your Hair Shine

(i)Use non-abrasive products on your hair:
  • Shampoos claiming to make your hair shiny and squeaky clean do so by stripping your hair of natural oils that protect it. Without that protective layer of oil, your hair ends up looking dull, not glossy. Avoid products that contain sodium lauryl and laureth sulfates, since these harsh cleaning agents are too hard on hair
  • Choose shampoos and conditioners made with oils and other natural ingredients like aloe and and herbal extracts
  • Apple cider vinegar is an excellent natural conditioner that leaves your hair soft and shiny. Pour about a tablespoon over your head after shampooing and in place of conditioner
  (ii)Use a shine serum:
  • As your hair is air-drying, smooth in a shine serum to help seal in the moisture and prevent your hair from frizzing up while it dries. Look for an anti-frizz serum at the drugstore or a beauty store
  • For course-textured hair, olive oil makes a great natural shine serum. Work about a teaspoon of oil through your hair, concentrating at the tips
  • For finer hair, try a lighter oil such as almond or rose hip oil.
  (iii)Give yourself deep conditioning treatments:
  • Once every couple of weeks, treat your hair to a deep conditioning treatment to keep the shaft healthy, strong and shiny. There's no need to go to a salon; use olive oil, coconut oil or a mixture of honey and oil as a conditioner.
  • Spread about half a cup of your conditioner of choice over your hair, massaging it in from the roots to the tips.Cover your head with plastic wrap or a shower cap and let the conditioner sit for 30 minutes to an hour.Rinse it out with cool water until the water runs clear
  (iv)Use olive oil.
  • Pour 1 cup of oil into a container. Crack in one egg and stir thoroughly to combine
  • Wet your hair. Slowly cover your head in the oil and egg solution.
  • Cover your head with a shower cap. Let it soak into the hair for up to 20 minutes.
  • Wash out under the shower.
  • Dry with a t-shirt to reduce frizz. Do not blow dry.
  • Comb it out (or else it will smell)
Method 3 : Making Lifestyle Choices That Promote Shiny Hair

  (i)Eat a balanced diet:
  • When you aren't getting the nutrients you need, it shows in your hair. Make your hair shine by eating plenty of fruits, vegetables, lean protein, and whole grains. Incorporate foods that are especially healthy for hair, including the following: Fish, beef, poultry, eggs, legumes, and other foods that are full of protein. Hair is made from protein and it immediately suffers if you aren't getting enough
  • Avocados and nuts. These contain healthy fats that make your hair look full and shiny
  • Nutrient-rich plants. Leafy greens like spinach and kale are especially healthy for hair
  (ii)Drink a lot of water:
  • When you're dehydrated your hair loses its luster and starts looking limp. Drink plenty of water to keep your hair healthy. Make sure you get 8 glasses a day. Eating water-heavy fruits and vegetables can also help hydrate you. Choose watermelon, berries, apples, cucumbers, lettuce and cabbage
  • Drink herbal tea and other caffeine-free tea for additional hydration.
(iii)Protect your hair from outside elements:
The sun, extreme temperatures, and environmental pollutants may be making your hair look less than optimal. Protect it from getting damaged by taking the following measures:
  • Wear a hat when the sun is strong. The sun is a powerful force, and it can damage your hair if you don't protect it.
  • Wear a swim cap in the pool. Chlorine dries hair out and leaves a residue. If you do go swimming without a cap, wash your hair immediately after exiting the pool.
  • Don't go out in the cold with wet hair. Your hair may freeze, which will lead to frizz

Here’s how you can lose weight, reduce belly fat in 10 ways, in 10 days

If you have been trying hard but still left wondering how to reduce your weight but haven’t been able to, here are some simple, practical tips. Just practising these sincerely for 10 days at a stretch is sure you start showing results and you will losing weight in no time!

1. Write down your weight loss goal – Most people do not do this, but believe us, it works. Whether you want to lose 10 kilos in 3 months, just reduce your tummy or maybe just increase your energy levels, write it all down in a weight loss diary or journal. The first step to reduce weight is to know and tell yourself how much you need to reduce

2. Burn more calories than you consume – It may sound very simple but it does need some planning. To get an idea – a single hour of walking at a brisk pace of 5 km/h burns just 145 calories, whereas a single McVeggie Burger contains 465 calories

3. Whenever you feel hungry in between meals, drink water – Most of the time, when we ‘feel’ hungry, it is really just thirst and our body craving for something. Filling it up with water can help beat the hunger pangs

4. Use brown rice instead of white – Not only does brown rice have fewer calories, it also has more fiber which makes you feel fuller for longer. Brown rice also retains the bran which helps lower cholesterol levels

5. Never starve to lose weight – If you go on a strict no-food or a reduced food diet, your body thinks you are starving and tries to save calories instead of burning them. Eat ‘negative calorie’ foods which actually have very less calories

6. Replace fried food with baked food – We Indians love our bhajias, samosas and jalebis. But these are very calorie-rich and can completely wreck your weight loss plans. Go for baked versions instead. Or use an air-fryer

7. Alcohol is weight loss’s worst enemy – Not only does it add unnecessary calories because it is a drink and you do not realize how much you are consuming, it can also damage your exercise plans the morning after. So, stay away from alcohol or even mocktails with high sugar content. Fresh lime soda with no sugar or just plain lime juice is your best bet. Vegetable juices are also available in most places these days

8. Eat fruits and veggies 5 times a day – These are low-calorie wonder foods which also supply you with great nutrition. Eat a fruit in the morning before breakfast, eat a mid-morning fruit instead of snacking. Eat a big portion of fresh vegetable salad in the afternoon before you eat lunch. Have a fruit in the evening instead of snacking on fried food and oodles of coffee. And eat either a big bowl of vegetable soup, a quick stir-fry with very little oil or a salad in the evening

9. Eat your dinner by 7:30 PM – We Indians are used to eating a heavy and late dinner. Since there is very less gap between your dinner and sleep time, the digestion is affected and can wreck your weight loss plans

10. Reduce your intake of salty food – We know you love pickles, papads and other salty snacks. But the salt is very bad for your weight loss plans as they can cause water retention and bloating. Stay away from them as much as possible
